Music, music

Most of my day took recording two more JoukoT/MEP- songs, well their backing tracks anyways. And in the evening playing domra and writing some more music of my own. - This must sound boring for most people. But I like it... As Frank Zappa once mentioned: "Music is the best." (Well, well - to be precise those words were uttered by Suzy Creamcheese. But FZ put them into her mouth.)

Maanantai

Jouko T once again visited with his guitar and some notated music. Now there are four more guitar tracks recorded. Some bluesy stuff and some more hilarious music. There's work - playing and recording of many different instruments - to be done.

I bought a new musical device - violin this time.

Kofeiiniton Blues

One more JoukoT/MEP song is done - at least the backing track for the whole. Kofeiiniton Blues (= No caffeine Blues) is a funny but a little miserable story of a very busy monday - with no time for a coffee break...

Snowstorm outside - first this winter.

Professori

All evening I worked with JoukoT/MEP song Professori (=Professor). Some tracks of percussion, bass, woodwinds and banjo are recorded into Pro Tools. I rarely play banjo. It must have been a couple of years ago when Jouko wanted me to record banjo. I haven't played it since those bygone days... I'm not any sophisticated player with that noizy kind of instrument. Well, who could be any good with any instrument after just some hours of playing it. You become a qualified player only after hundreds or preferably thousands of hours of rehearsing with a musical instrument...

Lopulta

Just some moments ago I wrote the above tiny little piece of music for solo flute - Lopulta (=Finally). It was a happy thing to create - though I don't know if it really is worth anything... Earlier today J-V played a beautiful guitar solo for my song Yotaivas (= Night Sky). Cold but happy music. Now the whole is mixed and bounced to Disk. And after that I recorded one more JoukoT/MEP song. Keski-ikainen (=Middle Aged) is done. (Juha H.)

Kissa unta antaa

Nice day - quite a lot of music. JoukoT/MEP song Kissa kehraa unta (= Cat purring sleep) is recorded - five tracks of woodwinds and bass. Now only singing is missing. The whole is a peaceful lullaby.

Later in the evening Sini sang into Pro Tools Yotaivas (=Night sky) - Katri Vala's poem that I wrote into music last Fall. Now only J-V's guitar is missing.

One more rainy day - no winter in sight.

Musaa

Jouko T came and went. While he was here he played four tracks of acoustic guitar into Pro Tools. That was fun! Some nice work ahead for me. I'm going to add rest of the instruments on top of those acoustic guitar tracks. - This was the first time I recorded guitar with Rode Nt5 microphone. And the results sound so nice and pleasing.

A photo I took a year ago. This year it seems that there's no real winter - only rain and cloudy weather. So the pic above is merely wishful thinking - snow and a bright winter day. Is the climate really changing? (Juha H.)

Imperiumin rakentaminen

For some days I've been reading a book written by Lawrence James - The Rise and Fall of the British Empire. I thought that it might be good to find out how to build an empire. This might help me to understand better the world we live today. Britain was so great one time and its power - in good and bad - was felt all over the world. Of course one book is only one possible view to see how it all happened. - Unfortunately my reading has been so slow. There's not enough spare time in my life at the moment...

Call of Duty 4

I haven't played any computer games for years. (Well, this is almost true. During the Christmas holiday I took a round of Shogun) Ordinarily games don't appeal to me any much. And ordinarily I don't have enough spare time... Today I tried Call of Duty 4 - a military game of modern warfare. The whole looked and behaved very well - good programming and all. But is shooting really for me - even in an imaginary situation?

During the evening I recorded my composition Yotaivas (=Night time sky). Now only J-V's guitar and Sini's singing of the Katri Vala poem are missing...

Lousy weather - first rain, then frost.

Presonus Firestudio

After a few days of waiting Presonus Firestudio I finally got one today. Sometime ago I thought that such a device might be good to add to my ProTools setup. Firestudio is a multi-channel pre-amp and it can be used separately from Pro Tools. Both ways an intriguing device. But it was not any easy to set it up to work properly with my favorite Hardware/Software... Now most of the troubling things are solved. But I need at least one more FireWire port.

Rain outside is making the snow melt quite fast.

Poliittinen tango

Earlier this evening I began to work with Poliittinen tango (=Political Tango), a song written by MEP. The story is a dream of a greedy and self-sufficient person willing to be an important part of the top echelon of political power... the whole is a satire. - Well, I had just time to record the bass.

Now's the time to play some domra.

Sudokuholisti ja muuta musaa

Most of the day I worked with music - playing, writing and recording it... In the morning I composed a couple of pieces for a Folk Band. Stylishly the music may sound like a mixture of Baroque and Finish Folk... In the evening I recorded all instriments for a JoukoT/MEP-song Sudokuholisti (=Sudokuholic)... And in between I just played flute...

Outside frost and biting breeze.

Nice day - most of it just playing music, recording different instruments - domra, bass guitar, several tracks of percussions - and mixing it all together. Etsiminen (=Searching), based on a poem of Katri Vala, is coming out nicely. Now only Sini's singing is missing.
