200 Motels ja Zappa
On ice today. - Right now my living room's DVD-player is pushing through PA the GrandeFinale of Frank Zappa's 200 Motels. The whole is quite weird to put it mildly. Anyways when I was very young during the 1970-ies I did listen to the then released 200 Motels double-LP quite many times. That was a very big part of my basic schooling for the listenig to Modern Concert Music... (Juha H.)
Venus and the Moon - view from my backyard. - Right now I'm watching and listening to a DVD - No Direction HomeBob Dylan. The whole seems and sounds wonderful. I'm not any Dylan fan for real - but I do have to admit he is a mightily important poet, voice and songwriter. Great voice for humanity! (Juha H.)
During the weekend and in the midst of my mother-in-law's birthday party I got a "new" digital piano, Roland HP 330. It's some ten years old model but very little used. Only after all things - cleaning, fixing the photos etc... - had been done I've had the opportunity to check it out for real. And I like it alot - the touch is so nice and it sounds so good. Happy playing ahead!!
Second rehearsal of a poetry-and-music project. I have the opportunity to improvise with my flute. This is nice. And with a piano player I'll accompany a singer, too . One more rehearsal to go before the real thing. The final performance is in early March.
America has a new president - Barack Obama. Congratulations! Sini and I have spent much of the evening watching the inauguration on television and over the Internet. Let's hope for the best - for America and for the world.
Nice saturday. I woke up very early and I've worked almost all day with my music. Playing, composing and recording. And now I'm not even tired... Well, there wasn't much else to do. It's been quite cold outside.
Today was the first rehearsal of a forthcoming musical performance - recited poetry, some songs accompanied with piano and me mostly improvisingalone with my flute. I'll play some lines to go along with the songs, too. And it seems that I'll also blow some soft things with poems... The whole I believe is going to be quite interesting.
While walking to today's rehearsal and back home I listened to Jan Garbarek playing saxophone with Hilliard Ensemble. Officium - beautiful and so peaceful music. Garbarek is one of my very long time favorites.
Lots of working with my music - recorded four tracks of percussion instruments and one track of bass guitar. And then I wrote some compositions etc... Right now I'm not even tired though I think I should.
Earlier while walking I listened to my iPod. Bob Katsionis is a wonderful musician. Melodic heavy metal. Here's an example.
Slow sunday. Nothing much - some reading, some walking along the snowy paths and quite alot of resting... Sini sang the first song for our next musical project. Now Hetki (=Moment) is almost ready - rough-mixed and so...
Into the blue of winter. - Above something I wrote today. And I recorded some keyboards, too. Thus proceeds our life here in cold and peaceful north. (Juha H.)
Birches on the wintry beach. - Finally I began my next musical project. This time my aim is some sort of progressive-rock-jazz-heavy-metal... (Juha H.)
