Tampere Jazz Happening

Back home. Tampere Jazz Happening 2009 is over for me and Sini. Anyways on Friday Portico Quartet was nice. Roberto Fonseca with his band was more than marveluos, actually they were very good. But the best of them all, at least for Sini and me was Taksim trio. Virtuosos from Turkey they were so good!! Thank you for them for so mucsh!!

While we were in Tampere the best of all was to meet some of our friends. Thank you.

Tomorrow I'm going to have a gig, a concert with Very Nais Quintet and FWD a.k.a. Gospel Sisters and Brothers.

Hoikkaset ja Tampere Jazz Happening

Ensemble Hoikkaset rehearsed today. We played some classical, some folk music and then something else. No jazz this time. But fun it was anyways.

Tomorrow Sini and I are going to Tampere Jazz Happening.

Now it might be time to listen and watch some Stevie Vai - Where the Wild Things are.

Zurna. Above a photo of one of the things I got from Turkey a week ago. It's a double-reed oboe-like instrument. But it looks and sounds more like a trumpet. Where can I find enough time to learn to play it properly? (Juha H.)

Jouko T visited. I recorded his acoustic guitar playing. Basics of four tracks of his compositions are done. Later I'll add my parts - bass, percussion and woodwinds. A lot of work ahead. And even later there's going to be 5-6 singers, an accordionist...

Very Nais Quintet and FWD a.k.a. Gospel Sisters and Brothers had a longish rehearsal. There are some gigs coming. My part is mostly to improvise with flutes and tenor sax. I also bang some hand drums.

Improvisages

Improvisages rehearsed today. Jori and I played some music - well, mostly we just jammed, improvised together and so much fun it was! Ari was shortly here, too. His paintings are going to be part of our next performances. This is the way it goes. There are quite interesting things ahead.

Now back to arrange more music. I've already composed some songs to the texts that I wrote in Turkey...

Pamukkale, Turkey. Above one of the real wonders of the world. So we're back from Turkey. There was warm and people were friendly. But it's so good to be back home. (Juha H.)

Tonight Sini and I are going to begin our trip to Marmaris, Turkey. We're going to stay there for a few days. I really hope it'll be warm weather by the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea. Sunshine would be so nice. Here in Finland the weather is slowly turning cold - miserable winds, rain, sleet and snow ahead. And some day later hopefully those bright days of Winter.

Fallen. - Pasuunapelimannit played a gig today. This time our insrtrumentation was two violins, banjo, two clarinets, flute, accordion and double bass. Folk music, mostly locally composed. Nice anyways. (Juha H.)
