Takaisin Tallinnasta

Back from Tallinn, Estonia. We - Sini and I - quite much like to visit there. Concert of Beethoven's music was the main reason to travel there this time. Above view from our hotel room's window.

Today is Frank Zappa's 70th birthday - well at least it would be if he'd be alive. He passed away all too early - as French composer Pierre Boulez said earlier this year. For some weeks while walking I've been listening to Zappa's orchestral works. Wonderful experience.

We just came back from the movies - Rare Exports. Excellent film about the original and real (!?) Santa Claus.

Ensemble Hoikkaset

Ensemble Hoikkaset played a gig for the local veterans of the WWII. Christmas carols and then something. And some real good food. Very nice anyways.

Winter's so cold. And to add to this misery - breeze bites. But this cold is so beautiful during those short daylight hours.

Improvisages

Fine day. I mastered an hour of music of Improvisages. Some Jori's compositions, some Ari's stories and a lots of improvisations. The whole sounds kindly beautiful and weirdly wonderful. I'm happy again and again... Music makes me so.

Improvisages

Improvisages was here today. We recorded Jori's compositions , four of them. Most of the music was written, so not much improvising this time. But all was so fine and good. Now most of the material for our next release is pretty much done. But maybe I'll do one or two more Ari's weird and wonderous stories to go with the whole.

Right now Sini and I are watching and listening to a concert from 15 years ago. Here is an example from that time...

Sibelius viulukilpailu 2010

All evening I just listened to Sibelius Violin Contest. Fine and finely performed music. Soloists were very talented - all three of them. I've always liked the Violin Concerto Jean Sibelius wrote.
